benefits of walking

Yes - this simple activity that has been integral to keeping track of our health since before we can even remember it is now being touted as “the closest thing we have left.

Walking is a great way to get in shape and maintain your health, but did you know that it can also save time? Here are five reasons why:

A study done by the University of South Carolina found out how much we spend on average per year due to commuting.

By reducing this number from ten hours (or more) down below three or four, most people report feeling less stressed about their day since they're able to do other things like sleep earlier at night without worrying about getting home late because traffic was bad all morning long.

1. The weight-neutralizing gene counteracts the harmful effects of genes that promote fat cells.

The Harvard researchers looked at 32 obesity-promoting genes in over 12,000 people to determine how much these genetic factors actually contribute.

They found that among those who walked briskly for an hour a day - as opposed to less than one hundred minutes per week or more- the effects of each gene were cut by half.

2. It helps tame a sweet tooth.

The latest research confirms these findings, with more studies investigating how many calories are lost from our diet when we're on foot instead of going out to dinner or grabbing food nearby as opposed to driving there ourselves afterward - all thanks to just one simple habit change.

3. Eating diets rich in fruit and vegetables can reduce your risk of developing breast cancer.

You can engage in any form of physical activity and it will help lower your risk for breast cancer. A recent study found that walking seven or more hours per week was associated with a 14% reduction when compared to women who walked three hours weekly, even if they had higher levels of known breast cancers risks such as being overweight or using supplemental hormones.

4. It eases joint pain.

Wearing high heels can make your feet hurt, but there are ways to avoid the pain. Walking five-six miles a week in fact has been shown as an effective way for preventing arthritis from forming on or near your joints! It does this by strengthening muscles that support them and lubricating those same joints with some much-needed relief - don't you think it's worth trying?

5. It boosts immune function.

Do you know what to do if it's flu season? A study of 1,000 men and women found that those who walked at least 20 minutes a day had 43% fewer sick days than those who exercised once or less. And their symptoms were milder too.

Conclusion:

Walking has been shown to reduce the risk of heart disease, diabetes, and obesity. It also helps lower blood pressure and cholesterol levels.

The next time you have a check-up, don't be surprised if your doctor hands you the prescription for walking instead of an anti-inflammatory drug or statin medication! So go ahead - lace up those sneakers and get out there.

You'll be glad that you did in more ways than one when it comes time to renew your medical insurance policy this year.
